「語源」　からみていきましょう。
result＝re（返る）＋sult（跳ぶ）
「跳ね返る」、つまり「何かをやって、その結果が出る」というイメージです。
I had this test, and the result was 90 points.→テストを受けた、その結果は90点だった。

consequence＝con（一緒に、～を含め）＋seque（ついて行く、続く）。一緒に続けていく」、つまり「何かがあって、それが続いて、何が起こる」というイメージです。
