Damselfly
Damselflies are insects of suborder Zygoptera in the order Odonata. They are similar to dragonflies, which constitute the other odonatan suborder, Anisoptera, but are smaller, have slimmer bodies, and most species fold the wings along the body when at rest. An ancient group, damselflies have existed since at least the Lower Permian, and are found on every continent except Antarctica.（from Wikipedia）

何故イトトンボを漢字で書くと豆娘なんですか？
　豆娘(ｲﾄﾄﾝﾎﾞ)は、元来は日本語では無く中国語(台湾)らしいです。
台湾でも、豆娘は一般に小形で体の細いトンボの総称として使われています。ただ、語源は分かりません。
　語源を探る為に少し話を広げますと、中国や日本に豆娘魚(ｵﾔﾋﾞｯﾁｬ)という魚がいて、別に｢親美姫｣という漢字も用います。
　これも、はっきりした語源は分からないらしいのですが、子供っぽい愛嬌の残る可愛い魚という意味が込められているそうです。
　中国語には、豆娘や條紋豆娘魚など名前に｢豆娘｣が入る生物がいるのですが、豆娘には｢可愛らしい｣という意味が込められているのではと考えます。
